Relevant Background:

  • One of the country’s largest theatre, with a seating capacity of almost 3,000, the Opera House is a world famous venue which has seen performances from some of the greatest entertainers and shows such as stars of yesteryear Frank Sinatra, Judy Garland and Bob Hope to today's biggest names like Peter Kay, One Direction and JLS. Many of the most popular touring shows have graced the stage including Grease, Cats and Calendar Girls.
  • · The first Royal Variety Performance to be held outside London was staged at the Opera House in 1955. In 2009 the 81st Royal Variety Performance was again staged at the theatre in the presence of The Queen, and hosted by Peter Kay. The performers included Lady Gaga, Alexandra Burke, Diversity and Miley Cyrus etc.

    • Multi-storey parking is available in the Houndshill Centre (5 minutes walk) - postcode FY1 4NY. Parking is also available on corner of Adelaide Street and Alfred Street (5 minutes walk) - postcode FY1 4LA. Limited metered street-parking is also available close-by. St Johns Square is a shared use space and open to pedestrians only for long-periods.
